lecturer book in name (synthesis of amino curcumin, nitro curcumin with metal complexes) from faculty of science and health at chemistry department. In this news the Author ''Nsar Sherko Omer'' is talking about her book.

Why this topic?

Concerning selecting this topic, the researcher states "the topic has a significant importance in the fields of natural sciences. The topic is considered the heat for the time being as a great number of people use natural remedy" Miss. Nsar, about the research results, affirms that: "the research came up with very important results. The results were the outcome of the preparations of some natural substance that haven't been prepared before. Moreover, the substance that have been prepared for the research can be used as cure for Cancer"

Abstract:

Curcumin 1, 7-bis (4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)-1-6-heptadiene-3-5-dione is a polyphenol derived from rhizomes of plant known as turmeric. It is a phytochemical that has been used as a dietary spice. Amazingly, curcumin has a wide range of chemo-preventive and chemotherapeutic through possessing several anti-oxidants, anti-inflammatory and anti-tumor activities. However, the range of this intrinsic activity of curcumin is limited by its low bioavailability; its concentration cannot access sufficient pharmacological effect on target tissue. Developing a synthesis curcumin with better bioavialbility is of great interest. The aim of this study was to synthesise a series of a new curcuminoids as anti-inflammatory analogues and their metal complexes for enhanced anti-cancer activities. 4-Hydroxy-3-nitrocurcumin was successfully synthesized by the method of Pabon (1964) and reduced to 3-amino-4-hydroxy curcumin. Moreover, curcumin and its metal complexes with Zn+2, Ni+2, Fe+2 and Cu+2 were effectively synthesized using literature procedures. The obtained compounds have been analysed and characterized by mass spectroscopy, ATR-FTIR spectroscopy, 1H and 13C nuclear magnetic resonance. The results shows that metal ions such as Zn+2 and Ni+2 were simply chelated with curcumin at the 1,3- dicarbonyl function to form a planar dimeric type species.

-The researcher has concluded that Curcumin as an interesting molecule from Mother Nature is worthy for further exploration in attempts to synthesis a novel curcuminiods and their metal complexes in order to improve and enhance its medicinal value.

-in the research, its became clear for Miss Nsar that curcumin derivatives can be produced in various methods through transforming one of the bonds of it with each of the important other metals that can step up the activities of the matter like a natural medicine.

-as far as nsar is concerned, this subject is essential and valuable, thus she has a plan to carry out another research on it. My research has not ended; I intend to continue setting about the subject so as to get more data and more new uses of curcumin.

Department of Chemistry (DCHE)

The Department of Chemistry is a vital, expanding hub of scientific inquiry with deep historic roots and a ready grasp on the future. The Chemistry Department provides the opportunity for an undergraduate student to obtain a thorough fundamental knowledge of all fields of chemistry. There are lecture courses in the general areas of inorganic, organic, and physical chemistry, many specialized courses including analytical and biochemistry. Laboratory experience is provided in inorganic and organic synthesis, analytical methods and physical chemistry measurements. Independent and original work is stressed in the laboratories and modern equipment is available to carry out the work. The equipment and techniques that are available to the undergraduate student include visible, ultraviolet, and infra-red spectrometers, atomic absorption spectrometers, thermal analysis instrument, CHN analyser and electro-chemistry techniques. Many of these instruments are interfaced directly to computers. click here
