Musher Ismael Salih Kakey is assistance lecturer at the Chemistry department in the Faculty of Science and Health of Koya University. He has written a book entitled (Hemodialysis Improvement: For Chronic Renal failure), which will be published by the German Lambert Academic Publishing.
The research is about Hemodialysis treatment in Chronic renal failure patients and its relation to the general health of Chronic renal failure patients in Kurdistan region. It will have important information for Physician specialist in kidney disease as well as for patients with chronic kidney. The present study aims to assess the changes in various biochemical, anemic and oxidative stress related parameters that may occur in chronic renal failure patients. The assessment included pre and post hemodialysis samples analysis of the patients to evaluate the adequacy of hemodialysis as treatment. This study comprised seventy-six (76) patients with chronic renal failure (CRF) on hemodialysis and forty (40) healthy persons of same age groups regarded as control group. Patients and controls were divided, depending on the sex and age, into two group’s men and women and each group was subdivided into age groups ≤ 40 and age group > 40 years. All hemodialysis patients were taking erythropoietin (EPO).
The dialyzer consists of bicarbonate 32 mmol/L, sodium 140 mmol/L, potassium 2 mmol/L and calcium 1.50 mmol/L. The blood samples were taken from these patients that underwent hemodialysis before and after hemodialysis. The estimation of the biochemical parameters involved measurement of renal function tests, liver function tests, anemic and oxidative related parameters in CRF patients before and after the process of hemodialysis. Results showed that, the serum levels of the renal functions test parameters, urea, creatinine, uric acid increased in the pre-hemodialysis of all groups of chronic renal failure patients due to the loss of clearance ability of the kidney, and decreased in the post hemodialysis, this results in diffusion of these molecules through hemodialysis process, whereas serum total protein level decreased in chronic renal failure pre-hemodialysis patients and increased in post- hemodialysis. The serum liver function parameters, alkaline phosphatase (ALP), direct bilirubin levels were significantly high in pre hemodialysis chronic renal failure patients, and decreased in the post hemodialysis, whereas the levels of alanine transaminase (ALT), aspartate transaminase (AST), albumin, total bilirubin decreased in the pre-hemodialysis of CRF patients and increased in the post-hemodialysis samples.
The anaemic related parameters, (RBC count), hemoglobin content (Hb), mean corpuscle volume (MCV), mean corpuscle hemoglobin (MCH), mean corpuscle hemoglobin concentration (MCHC), hematocrit (HCT), serum iron, unsaturated iron binding capacity (UIBC), total iron binding capacity (TIBC) and transferrin saturation percent (TS%), decreased in the pre hemodialysis chronic renal failure patients, while increased after hemodialysis by taking erythropoietin, whereas ferritin level increased in the pre hemodialysis chronic renal failure patients, and decreased by hemodialysis in the post hemodialysis.
The oxidative stress markers showed significant increase in the malondialdehyde (MDA) level, and with significant decrease in the total antioxidant capacity (TAC) in CRF patients pre-hemodialysis serum samples, the oxidative stress markers were improved after hemodialysis by non-significant decrease in malondialdehyde MDA level and non-significant decrease in TAC in all group of CRF patients in post-hemodialysis samples of same patients.
